Deep down in the ocean, where big blue waves sway,
Rawry’s brave Daddy sails far, far away.
He rides in a submarine, quiet and grand,
Protecting the sea while his boy’s on the land.
When Daddy goes under the waves for a while,
It can be kind of tricky for Rawry to smile.
His belly feels bumpy, his heart feels so blue,
He misses his Daddy—and that’s okay, too!
Mommy says, “Rawry, it’s fine if you’re sad,
Or lonely, or messy, or confused, or mad.
Feelings are visitors coming to stay,
They hang out a bit, and then float away.”
They read stories at bedtime and hug stuffed toys tight,
Remembering Daddy is safe in the night.
Though a month—or much longer—is hard to remember,
Rawry has to navigate his emotions with patience and tender.
His Daddy’s a hero, it’s true as can be,
Exploring the depths of the shadowy sea.
