A world brought to life with words

I'm glad I grabbed this from Kindle unlimited, it is well worth the read. The world has so much history, you can tell there were events in the past that are affecting the present time in the book. There is depth to Bart, and he shows how PTSD can effect someone who went through trauma. How it can still effect someone years down the line, and how it can shape who the person decides to be as they grow older. The female characters are also well written, they have depth and their motives are well written. They aren't written to be damsels who need saving, they can stand on their own and still be supportive. I really appreciate the magic in the book, how it is indeed powerful, but those who can wield it are rare. It balances the magic and makes it so thatagic isn't just thrown around to solve every little problem. The various races are well written, and it's cool how their societal differences can change their interactions with others. I especially love Thrax, I would say he is one of my favorite characters. All in all, if you enjoy a well written world with history and depth to why things are happening, it's worth the read. I can't wait for the second book!
